As a child a great need was felt, something was not complete.
Like cake without ice cream, like a lake with no beach, not complete.
Of these things you know what to desire, to get, to be complete.
But this need is as hidden, about to be revealed, to be complete.
Integrity, each day was met with expectancy, I would not be beat!
Life was an adventure, filled with many new and exciting things!
But still, something was missing, like fire with no heat.
A need to share was felt, but only with one who cared.
One day someone came into my life, shy was I, shy was he.
Gradually, as we talked, we recognized a bond, a covenant.
We excited each other with our talk of things to be.
Each thought as the other, a need filled, friends we were.
A childhood friendship is very special indeed.
Unlike most made later in life, there is a special bond.
One made of constant time together, fulfilled need.
Time is the great test, from each other, no rest.
With friendship, trials will come, of different degrees.
Time is a friend, time is a tester, there is no escape.
A childhood friend is always there, two as one.
There are no other choices, it seems to be destiny.
So each recognizes, each blends, the hurt mends.
All of a sudden it seems, troubles go, as if on a breeze.
Then, of a sudden, you grow up, time apart, you separate.
It's a slow drift, life seems to have different priorities now.
The bond that brought you together is weakening.
Is this some great new wisdom that you're experiencing?
Then God, then God, He comes into your life, teaching love.
Memory goes back to the friendship, love, isn't God great!
Time is precious now, with a quest in sight.
Attention is on restoring that bond, time is tight.
With covenant friendships, the future is clear and bright.
Together we are, so that others may see the light.
