Long ago as a child alone in the night,
I would reach out for the one surrounded by light.
I could hear Him from within, in spirit, in soul,
I could sense Him, so gentle, so in control.
Many nights we'd almost touch, then He'd slip away,
Sleep would overtake, lack of knowledge would have its way.
A new day would start and my search would renew,
Love and guidance was needed for life to be true.
At times I would think all were dreams, He wasn't real,
At times the memories wouldn't come, someone came to steal.
But this just had to be real, This was He whom I had heard about,
My heart knew that He and I would blend as one, no doubt.
He was always with me, a covenant friendship sealed,
But as to a teacher, all knowing, in control, I would not yield.
But for a friendship to be true, there is no need to compete,
Once in His Word, knowing Him, the covenant is now complete.
All the silver and gold are His, the earth and the sky,
He now has this heart of mine, I have the freedom to Fly!
Now as I dream at night, the dreams are bright,
For at long last I now know the keeper of the light!
